Dental crowns are fitted over teeth to hide imperfections and / or protect them from damage. Unlike veneers, they cover the entire surface of the tooth, making them a recommended restoration for teeth that are broken, badly decayed, or require added support after a root canal treatment. Other popular uses include protecting a dental implant and supporting dental bridges.
Crowns are available in several materials, both tooth and non toothcoloured, but at Oatlands Dental we specialise in beautiful and natural-looking ceramic crowns created by CEREC 3D Studio.
How CEREC Works
Most crowns require at least two visits: during the first, your dentist takes an impression of your teeth to act as a model for your new crown. Once it comes back from the dental lab, you return to have it fitted.
With CEREC 3D Studio, your new restoration is created right in our practice, eliminating the need for wait periods and temporary crowns. We use an innovative camera to capture an impression of the tooth, which is then transferred to a computer. After your dentist designs a CAD (Computer Aided Design) image of the crown, the restoration is shaped out of a large block of tooth-coloured ceramic. Most fittings are completed in under an hour, thanks to this amazing dental technology.
